In 2005 Susan, at the age of 35, was diagnosed with stage 3 triple negative breast cancer, treated with wide local excision, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. In 2008 it was confirmed she carries the faulty BRCA1 gene and underwent a prophylactic bilateral mastectomy with tram flap reconstruction and also a bilateral oophorectomy.  Susan works part time for Stena Line. She lives near Newton Stewart, and is married to Jamie and is mum to20 year old Abbie.

Susan is delighted to be able to help out WWAC where she can as she can empathise with others who have been diagnosed with cancer. She feels she can serve as an inspiration to others due to her long cancer survival rate of 18 years and counting!
